Understanding My Place in the Social Network

October 1, 2009

I set up my wordpress account last year, only to post “hello”.  I set up a few twitter accounts, only to watch and read other’s conversations.  I set up a tumblr account & found myself gawking at beautiful digital image art.  Everyday I read and occasionally I commented on ActiveRain, Trulia, Zillow and a handful of other real estate blogs.

I have used a variety of usernames, sometimes my full name (Phoebe Underwood), sometimes I eliminate the space between the ’e’ and ’U’ and I have also used different versions of my name (Phoebe206, PhoebeU, but NEVER my initials: PU (What stinks?) and sometimes I use my “brand” SheSellsSeattle.

At first I thought it best to separate myself from my brand (I am SO much more than just an agent selling real estate in Seattle!), concerned that SOME of my comments and opinions might not be what John & Jane Q. Public want to hear from their (potential) real estate agent.  I’m wrong.  My opinion does matter, the comments I make (nice or not) are a direct reflection of who I am and what I stand for; despite my earlier concern of offending the public (and my future clients) it IS important they should know my point of view.

This is it!  I am joining the conversation using a combination of tools, streamlining my presence to fewer user names, using accounts I already have in place, with unabashed honesty.

Stay tuned for more conversation to come.
